Every 5LAX head ships unstrung, in the $34.99–$74.99 range, and is built to be customized rather than protected. If you have ever hesitated before dyeing a head because of what it cost, that is the problem we set out to solve.

What to know before you pick one

Unstrung means you choose the pocket. You will need mesh and sidewall string. The upside is that the pocket is yours from day one instead of something you fight against for a season.

Numbered sidewall holes. Our RC1 mold uses 20 numbered sidewall holes, so following a stringing guide means counting to a number instead of squinting at a photo. It is the single biggest difference between a first stringing job that works and one you redo twice.

Dye-friendly by design. Lighter and translucent finishes take dye predictably. Because these heads are not priced like flagship models, experimenting costs you an afternoon rather than a paycheck.

Choosing between them

The Darkhorse is the pick for offensive players who want the lightest option — 5 ounces, aggressive offset, NCAA and NFHS legal. The RC1 is the easiest to string and the most forgiving to learn on. The RC1 INK is for players who want a finish nobody else on the field has; each one is finished individually.

All heads have a universal throat that fits standard shafts.
